If you encounter an error message while viewing the PAYE Modernisation Submission exception report, it specifies that there is an invalid character, such as an apostrophe. If no character appears after the colon, it might refer to an issue like a blank space or a carriage return.
To resolve this, check and update the surname on the Employee Screen. If you're unsure what the invalid character is, clear the surname field and retype the surname.
After making the necessary amendments, regenerate the submission file before transferring it.
To review and amend the surname, follow the steps in the relevant section.
Portal
From the dashboard menu, select People Management.
Click Dashboard then beside Employees, click VIEW.
In the Search field, search for the employee, then click VIEW.
Click Key Information then in the Surname field, amend the surname.
To save changes, click Save.
Back Office
Click CorePersonnel then click Maintenance.
Click Personal Profile then amend the Surname field.
To save changes, click Save.
