If an employee is being paid Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) despite earning below the Lower Earnings Limit (LEL), this is likely due to the current setting of the Average Earnings Warning parameter.

When the Average Earnings Warning is enabled, the system allows SSP payments even if the employee’s earnings fall below the LEL.

To disable this setting, follow the steps below.

  1. Click CorePay then click Reference.

  2. Click Maintain Statutory Pay Parameters.

  3. In the General area, untick the Average Earning Warning check box.

  4. Re-run Steps 1 and 2 of the payroll, and check the results.
